Dr. Raha Yousefi, DDS, MPH
Dr. Raha Yousefi’s passion for dentistry and patient care started at a young age. Her father is a dentist who practiced in Washington, DC for 40 years. Growing up, she had the opportunity to see all aspects of a dental office; she started working at the front desk in high school, moving into clinical assisting, and eventually working as an office manager while attending the University of Maryland where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree. Dr. Yousefi continued her dental journey at Howard University, obtaining her Doctor of Dental Surgery. After graduation, she went on to specialize in periodontics at the University of Pittsburgh where she also earned her master’s in public health.
In addition to formal schooling, Dr. Yousefi is enthusiastic about pursuing continued education both on a local and national level. She feels that it is important to keep current with evolving technology, techniques, and materials to provide state-of-the-art treatment options for her patients.
As a member of the District of Columbia Dental Society and local chapters of the American Dental Association (ADA), Dr. Yousefi routinely participates in meetings that highlight issues that directly affect our area. She is also a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, the Greater Washington Academy of Women Dentists, and the Greater Washington Academy of Dental Studies. Her strong public health background has made her a well-rounded practitioner with expertise in a variety of dental disciplines. This has allowed her to recently accept a volunteer appointment as a Dean’s Faculty member at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, teaching as a clinical instructor.
Dr. Yousefi loves getting to know the community, one patient at a time. She appreciates each of her patients for who they are and respects each person’s opinions and ideas. She knows that communication is key in her field, and she loves talking to and learning about her patients.
Dr. Lucy Johnson
Dr. Johnson was born and raised in East Lansing, Michigan. She graduated from the Honors College at Michigan State University with a degree in Chemistry. She went on to earn her Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. She graduated with honors and received the Dental Implant Student Award from the AAOMS.
After dental school, Dr. Johnson completed a General Practice Residency at the Ann Arbor Veterans Affairs Hospital, where she gained broad experience in complex dental care. She then practiced as a general dentist before pursuing specialty training in periodontics at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health in Rochester, New York.
While at Eastman, Dr. Johnson received numerous awards and recognitions. She was honored to be chosen as the Chief Resident of her department. She earned national recognition for her research on antidepressants and dental implants, which was published in the Journal of Periodontology. She also received the 2024 Graser Award at the American Association for Dental Research Conference for a groundbreaking SFOT (Surgically Facilitated Orthodontic Therapy) case. It was later published in Clinical Advances in Periodontics and presented at conferences around the world.
Dr. Johnson is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and an active member of multiple dental, periodontal, and implantology organizations. Her skill, dedication to evidence-based care, and kind, down-to-earth approach make her a perfect fit for our patient-centered team.
Outside of the office, Dr. Johnson enjoys spending time with her husband and their Australian shepherd Archie. She loves cooking, gardening, slalom water skiing, and golfing.

Unlike dentures, which can slip or cause discomfort, implants are securely anchored in the jaw bone, providing a natural feel and long-lasting solution. With proper care, implants can last for decades.
Dental implants do more than just replace teeth. They stimulate your jaw bone, just like a natural tooth root would. This keeps bone density alive and prevents the sunken look that can happen with missing teeth.
With implants, you can get back to smiling, laughing, and eating all your favorite food again. Implants are designed to look, feel, and function just like the rest of your natural smile.
We'll assess your oral health, discuss your goals, and use advanced 3D imaging to create your custom implant roadmap.
You'll leave with a clear understanding of your options, timeline, and costs.
When you lose a tooth, you also lose the roots that keep it in place. Your doctor will add a small, screw-like post made of titanium into your jaw bone.
This acts like the root of your missing tooth.
Over the course of several months, your jaw bone will grow around the titanium post, holding it firmly in place.
This will keep your jaw strong and prevent it from deteriorating over time.
After your jaw heals, your doctor will attach a new, custom-made tooth to the post — this is called a crown.
The crown will be shaped and colored to perfectly match your other teeth.
Jaw bone begins to weaken
Without a tooth root's stimulation, your jaw bone begins to shrink immediately after tooth loss. This can make future implant placement difficult or even impossible.
Teeth shift out of place
The gap left by your missing tooth allows surrounding teeth to move. This shift can complicate future implant placement and cause severe bit issues.
face will start looking older
Jaw bone loss can lead to a sunken facial appearance, making you look older than you are. Getting implants can help you maintain your youthful features for years to come.

"I have a bit of dental anxiety. But from the minute I walked into the office the caring, efficient staff put me at ease. Dr Lucy was incredible-explaining every detail of the procedure. The hi tech treatment room was so relaxing - I was able to choose the music and the overhead video and even offered a hand to hold. Overall a great experience."

"Thank you for the excellent job done by Dr. Lucy Johnson who was assisted by John Flemings during my tooth extraction with preparation for dental implant. Dr. Lucy's hand is truly amazing, no pains during the procedure and she ensured the final results will give you a happy smile, truly it did, what a joy to discover this dental clinic. Dr. Raha was also around and I appreciated her quality control procedures. I have already shared my dental experience to my colleagues in the office, they truly deserved to be endorsed for their professionalism and expertise. Cheers to a great team at District Dental Surgery!!!"

"I had an exceptional experience during what could have been a very stressful time when I learned I needed a tooth extraction. Dr. Yousefi performed the extraction, and Dr. Johnson placed the implant. Both were incredibly skilled, gentle, and reassuring. I was very nervous going in, but they immediately put me at ease. I can honestly say this was the most comfortable and stress-free dental experience I’ve ever had. I’m truly grateful for their care and professionalism."

"Fantastic staff here! I came in and needed some much needed work that I've needed for some time. They didn't scold me about how long it's been like most dentists do, they created a plan to get it all done and they did just that. Now my teeth are getting back to where they should be and I'm super thankful for this practice! I wish I could give 10 stars! Thank you again for helping me out!"
